Hotel Locations

Istanbul, Turkey – There is no doubt, Istanbul is a city of wonders. Situated in the most strategic location on both sides of the Bosphorus made Istanbul over the centuries the capital to 3 very different empires. It is also an incredibly popular tourist destination, having been the European Cultural Capital in 2010.

Sultanahmet is the most historical part of Istanbul. Here you can see many landmarks of the city in close vicinity, like the Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque, the Palace Cistern, The Hippodrome Square and The Turkish And Islamic Arts Museum just to name a few. Just around the corner of the Hagia Sofia you will find the Topkapi Palace, representing the center of power of the Ottoman Empire for 300 years, a must-see for visitors.

Beyazit is a cultural and tourist district. This district is less than 1 km away from the historical centre of Istanbul. You will find here many more Ottoman landmarks, but at the same time, it is a very modern area ideally suiting those who came to Istanbul for shopping. The main advantage of Beyazit is its convenient location very close to Laleli – “the commercial heart of Istanbul”, and to Sultanahmet – its “historical heart”.

Beyoğlu/Taksim is known for its vibrant nightlife, entertainment and art scenes. From Taksim Square, visitors can enjoy a long pedestrian strip lined with art galleries, cafes, bars, theatres and other attractions. The historic tram, which runs along Istiklal Avenue, is an ideal way to see the Art Nouveau and Neoclassical buildings in this district. The Beyoğlu hotels around Taksim square offer a great option for accommodation when staying in Istanbul. Taksim Square has a busy network of buses, plus the Metro (underground) station.

Every possible accommodation style is available in Istanbul, from hostel dorms and midrange hotels to world-class luxury hotels.

TIP: Hotel space is limited, so be sure to book your accommodation well in advance to ensure that you get the hotel of your choice at the special rate. Sharing a room also helps cut costs.

Meals and Expenses

An average meal in Istanbul can range anywhere from USD 15 to 35 depending on where you eat your meals. However, breakfast is included in the cost of hotels blocked by AWID, and lunch and snacks will be provided each day of the Forum, as well as one evening meal. The only meals you will need to pay for on your own are three evening meals and the meals while in transit to and from Istanbul.

Transfers to and from the airport

AWID has arranged with a company for transfers from the airport to your Forum hotel at an approximate cost of USD 30 each way (the cost of a taxi is between USD 35 and USD 50 each way). You will be given the option to book your airport transfer when you book your hotel.

TIP: If you are arriving alone, arranging for a transfer with AWID is less expensive than taking a taxi. However, if you are traveling with companions and staying at the same hotel, a taxi will be cheaper. If you decide to use a taxi, please be sure to bring a printout of where your hotel is located for the taxi driver, as the taxi driver may not know your hotel.

Transfers to the Convention Centre

Free shuttles will be provided between Forum hotel areas and the AWID Forum 2012 venue twice daily. Meeting points will be announced closer to the date of the Forum.
