Accessibility

AWID is committed to making the Forum an accessible space for all participants. Our website has been designed to meet accessibility standards, the Halic Congress Center in Istanbul was selected specifically for its ability to cater to people with disabilities and like the 2008 Forum in Cape Town, all participants with disabilities will have the option of being accompanied to plenaries and breakout sessions with volunteer assistants.

For the 2012 Forum we will provide sign language interpretation in American (or British) English and Turkish (dependent on interpretation request upon registration) for the daily plenaries, as well as increased access to hearing loops.

For other languages, if your group would like to bring its own sign language interpreter to Istanbul please let us know and we’ll assign a space for your group at the main auditorium. Please contact forum12@awid.org.

If you have a medical condition requiring accessibility support on-site, contact forum12@awid.org and we will assist you as much as we can. The 2012 AWID Forum will have an accessibility information desk to assist delegates with disabilities during the Forum. Wheel chairs will also be available during the Forum at no cost. If you require a wheelchair, please be sure to request one in advance by contacting forum12@awid.org.

The Forum schedule which includes basic information, a list of sessions, hours of operations and the venue floor plan will be printed in large print for visually impaired delegates who request this through the registration form.

The following guides and checklists (shared by Mobility International USA) will be used as much as possible when we work with the venue staff at the Halic Congress Center in Istanbul.
