Wanda Nowicka (Poland)

Wanda Nowicka has been an activist in the fields of women’s rights, health and human rights for many years. She is the President of the Federation for Women and Family Planning. From 1996-2002 she served as a member of the Gender Advisory Panel of the WHO’s Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction Programme. She was a member of the Steering Committee of the International Consortium on Medical Abortion from 2002-2010. Since 2003 she has been a member of the Advisory Board of Reproductive Health Matters, and was a Board Member of Mama Cash. Wanda is one of the founders (1999) of ASTRA – Central and Eastern European Women’s Network for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and she has been coordinating ASTRA activities since. She is the author of many articles and papers on women’s rights, sexual and reproductive health and rights published in Poland and internationally (e.g. in Reproductive Health Matters and Sex Politics, Reports from the Front Lines) including shadow reports to UN Human Rights Committee, UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the Committee on the Rights of the Child.
